Community Fund
HS Orka´s Community Fund‘s purpose is to support projects with positive social impacts. Grants are allocated twice per calendar year.
Next allocation and application deadlines
The next date for allocations is the 15th of May 2023 and applications can be submitted on the website from the 1st of April until the 30th of April. The next round of allocations will be announced on the 15th of October and applications will be accepted from the 1st of September to the 30th of September.
What sort of projects does the fund support?
Projects that can have a positive impact on Icelandic society, well-being and culture. Applications are accepted from all parts of Iceland but special emphasis is on supporting projects in neighboring communities of HS Orka´s operations. Among other criteria, projects are viewed in the context of the UN´s Sustainable Development Goals that HS Orka has adopted for its operations:
Applications are submitted through HS Orka´s website. The company´s Grants Committee reviews all applications and announces recipients. For inquiries please email styrkir@hsorka.is.
Selection criteria – HS Orka´s Community Fund
- The fund gives grants to clearly defined projects and events. Grants are allocated to individuals, groups, institutions and not-for-profit organisations.
- Generally grants are from 100 thousand ISK to 500 thousand ISK, although in certain instances higher grants can be considered. All grants are expected to be fully used for the described purpose within 12 months from being allocated.
- Projects that are suitable for allocations from the fund:
Projects related to social and environmental matters, sustainability and the energy transition.
Projects related to health and well-being, education, preventive initiatives, youth work, culture and the arts.
Projects that in some way refer to the UN´s Sustainable Development Goals that HS Orka has chosen to adopt .
- Projects that are generally not suitable for the fund:
The fund does not give grants for general operations or for marketing purposes.
The fund generally doesn´t give grants for education or travel cost for individuals. Travel expenses can however be part of the scope of suitable projects.
The fund does not give grants for research and development projects that are conducted within universities, institutions, companies or individuals.
